TBC Baseball will begin its fall program soon, and the Eagles are solidifying a roster destined to compete for a South Region title next spring. One more addition features a top-notch outfielder who has played championship baseball as recently as last season. Nakia Peterson comes from Alabama to join the Eagles to help solidify the roster even more.
Nakia Peterson, Jr. — Montgomery, AL
Nakia attended G.W. Carver High School in Montgomery, where he spent three years playing varsity baseball under head coach Rod White. Nakia is the son of Mr. Nakia Peterson, Sr. and Ms. Stephanie Gordon.
Nakia was an AHSAA All-Star in the Montgomery region and a runner up for a district championship as a senior. Prior to 2018, Carver baseball had not made the playoffs since 2005, but that changed last spring. Nakia proudly proclaims that the 2018 team “ended the 12-year drought!”
As a senior, Nakia, an outfielder, had a perfect fielding percentage of 1.000, meaning he committed no errors, and he hit a robust .364. He also struck out 13 men in limited pitching opportunities. In addition to high-school baseball, Nakia played travel ball in the MLB RBI program for two years for the River Region RBI and the Diamond Pride Blue Jays.
Academically at Carver, Nakia earned his way onto the A-B honor roll with a final GPA of 3.01. His classmates elected him to the 2018 Carver High School Homecoming Court.
When asked why he chose Trinity Baptist College, Nakia explained that he made his decision “so I could grow as a person both physically, and mentally.” He continued: “At Trinity, I can learn new things while getting my education. I can also get a closer relationship with God.”
Nakia’s plans for after college include working in sports. “Yes, I would love to play professional baseball if I get the chance,” he said, “but if not, I would love to become a sports agent. My biggest goal is to give the kids in my city back home all the hope and motivation that they need to become successful in life! I want to be looked at as a role model.”
Nakia’s favorite Bible verse is Isaiah 41:10, which says, “Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.” Nakia summarizes the verse as saying, “Tough times are meant for tough people with tough minds!” with God’s help. He adds, “I am blessed to be able to have this second chance at something I love!”
Trinity is pleased to welcome Nakia Peterson to Jacksonville and to the TBC family.
