TBC Eagles Head Baseball Coach Jon Copeland is pleased to announce the first five signees in the recruiting class of 2018, and it is an extraordinary group. “We believe our 2017 recruiting class was one of the best we have ever had,” said Coach Copeland, “but this 2018 class has the makings of being even better.”

The first group is comprised of players all from the state of Florida.

James Soto (Centennial HS, Port St. Lucie): James brings to TBC a solid swing and defensive skills that he developed at 9A Centennial HS, where he was a teammate of current TBC standout Austin Hillier. In 2017, he batted .278, with a .677 OPS, 7 RBI’s and 16 runs scored for the Eagles.

James Soto signs with the Eagles

Jarrin Sweeney (Colonial HS, Orlando): Jarrin is a four-year varsity starter for the Colonial Grenadiers in Orlando, Florida. He was Rookie of the Year in 2015 and Pitcher of the Year in 2017. He is finishing out his senior year leading the team in home runs (1), batting average (.387) and saves (3). He is tied for pitching wins (3). The Colonial Grenadiers are currently in district playoffs, and Jarrin had a solid first-game performance, going 1 for 2 with a 2-run single, a sac bunt, and a walk. He then closed out the game on the mound for the save. He is excited to continue his baseball career at Trinity Baptist College and hopes to contribute to the team both on and off the field.

Jarrin Sweeney is one of the newest Eagles.

Will VanSickle (Paxon HS, Jacksonville):  Will is another top two-way player, not only for the Golden Eagles, but for northeast Florida. A three-year starter at 6A Paxon, he is currently batting a blistering .429, with 12 RBI and 7 doubles. Will also has a career 2.80 ERA with 61 K’s in 58 innings. His outstanding play earned him 2017 Times Union All-Area Honorable Mention, and was recently named to the 2018 All-Gateway Conference squad.

Ben VanSickle (Paxon HS, Jacksonville):  Ben is one of the top pitchers in the Jacksonville area. As a three-year starter for the Golden Eagles, he has collected a 2.90 ERA, 15 wins, and 92 K’s in 88 innings of work. He was also named to the 2017 Times Union All-Area Honorable Mention team. In 2017 he pitched Paxon to complete-game victories in the district semifinal and regional quarterfinal games, allowing no earned runs.

Sammy Coffrin (Paxon HS, Jacksonville):  Sammy is a talented three-year varsity player for Paxon. He is currently batting a stellar .412 with 14 RBI in the first 18 games. He was also a standout on the Post 9 American Legion team from Jacksonville that made it all the way to the 2017 Florida State American Legion tournament.
